A pool table is one of the heaviest items you can own, with some weighing up to 1,000 pounds. So moving them from one place to another is no walk in the park. If you have plans to pack up your pool table and move it to your new house, it is crucial that you are well-prepared and also have extra help. While hiring professional movers is the best option, it is understandable that not everyone can afford that.
Moving a pool table is tricky and it requires knowledge, skill and most importantly, patience. Here are some things you must do to move your table without professional help:
1. You have to disassemble the table first.
You cannot simply lift your table and move it somewhere. You have to disassemble the parts first. Remember that you have to remove the pockets, rails, felt and base. You must then separate the frame from the legs. Keep all the screws and bolts safely because you will need them to reassemble the table.
2. Rent a moving vehicle, preferably a truck.
Unfortunately, for moving something as bulky as your 7ft outdoor pool table, you cannot do with anything less than a truck. Even when disassembled, its parts will take up a lot of space. Contact truck rental companies to find one that offers pool table moving services at reasonable prices.
3. Get as much help as you can.
You cannot move the parts from your house to the truck all by yourself. You will need help. Get friends or family to help you out. At least four people are a must so that the job is carried out seamlessly. Although, if the move involves complex routes like narrow stairways, it is best to seek help of professionals.
4. Cover and wrap all the parts of the table before you load the truck.
You must properly wrap each part of the table before you moving them to your new home. Use moving blankets or bubble wrap. You must pay special attention to the slates because they are heavy and more prone to damage. After the truck is loaded, drive slowly so that the risk of damage is further minimized.
Doing these few things will ensure that your pool table is safely transported to its destination, sans any damage.
